        Infiniti G37 Expert Review

        Staff Writer

The 2013 Infiniti G37 is a versatile vehicle that will appeal to those in the market for a sedan, coupe, or convertible. All three models are available in two trims. The sedan and coupe come in the base Journey trim, as well as the higher Sport trim. Meanwhile, the convertible is available in the Base trim and Sport trim. Buyers should note however, that the flip side of the many models is that the price range is quite vast. Ultimately, the lower trims of the 2013 Infiniti G37 are a worthy choice for those looking for a vehicle in the entry-level luxury class, while the higher trims should appease those shopping for a higher-end luxury vehicle.

The biggest news for the 2013 Infiniti G37 is that it's available as a coupe, sedan or convertible.

The exterior of the 2013 Infiniti G37 is sleek and curved, while the lip spoiler adds a sporty touch. The rear slopes downward gradually, making for a dramatic design. It is a credit to the design that the sedan, coupe, and convertible all look natural while sharing the same basic design. Still, there are differences in appearance between the models. The sedan has 17-inch wheels, the coupe has 18-inch wheels, and the convertible offers the most dramatic appearance with its 19-inch wheels. A benefit to the exterior of the 2013 Infiniti G37 is that it is available in eight different exterior colors.

The interior of the 2013 Infiniti G37 reflects the elegance of a mid-level luxury vehicle, and Infiniti punctuates the design with a vast number of features. Leather seats are standard on all trim levels, as well as an eight-way power driver seat that upgrades to 12-way on the top Sport trim. Drivers are treated to lumbar support and a memory setting that remembers the driver's seat position. Front passengers also receive heated seats, and a sunroof comes standard on both the coupe and the sedan. Those looking for a sporty ride will appreciate the leather steering wheel that tilts, supplying added maneuverability.

The cargo capacity of the 2013 Infinity G37 is contingent on the model that drivers choose. Families will be best served opting for the sedan, which offers ample front and rear leg room and can comfortably seat five people in total. The coupe and convertible, meanwhile, seat four people. Front passengers will be similarly comfortable in the sedan, convertible, and coupe, as all three offer 43.8 inches of leg room. However, rear leg room differs substantially. The sedan possesses a full 34.7 inches of rear leg room, while the coupe has 29.8 inches and the convertible 27.2 inches. Cargo capacity for the sedan is reasonably ample at 13.5 cubic feet of luggage

The 2013 Infiniti G37 comes standard with a number of safety features. The car has six airbags and height-adjustable safety belts. Fog lights also come standard and Xenon headlights allow drivers to drive stylishly at night. Illuminated entry is standard on all models and the 2013 Infiniti G37 also protects against theft. There is a theft deterrent alarm system and a panic alarm.

The 2013 Infiniti G37 offers a powerful ride regardless of the model. Steering is maneuverable and braking is responsive. Each of the models offers slightly different specifications, although the differences are virtually negligible and should not inform one's decision. All three models are equipped with the same 3.7-liter, V-6 engine. The coupe has 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, while the sedan has 328 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the convertible offers a slightly different 325 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. The coupe and sedan both offer a choice of seven-speed automatic or six-speed manual, while the convertible is only available in the six-speed manual.

Fuel economy totals are respectable given its category, although buyers should not be fooled into thinking that the 2013 Infiniti G37 is environmentally friendly. Drivers should expect to receive 16-17/24-27 mpg city/highway. Because the 2013 Infiniti G37 guzzles gas at such a prolific rate, it may not be the wisest option for those with long commutes. At the same time, the poor fuel economy is a direct result of its powerful performance. Indeed, the 2013 Infiniti G37 is estimated to go from zero to 60 in a snappy 5.0-5.4 seconds. Considering its level of performance, the car is an excellent value in its category.

The lack of an all-wheel drive option is also likely to deter those living in difficult weather climates. Depending on the geographic location, the coupe and convertible are probably best considered three season cars. For those who do need a car that can make it through harsh winters, the sedan has an all-wheel drive option. Overall, it is clear that Infiniti offers is targeting a vast demographic with its G37 line, and there is an appropriate model for everyone in the luxury car demographic. It should also be noted that while prices start out at under $40,000, the many trim levels make it so that the cost rises sharply, topping out at over $60,000.
