Texas raceway kennedale reopening

Texas raceway kennedale reopening DEFAULT

(Photo: Don Cook/Fort Worth Star-Telegram) We never like to see a racetrack calling it a day, but we found out yesterday evening that the 1/8th mile strip in Kennedale was closing down for good after attempting to run a season. It&#;s been known for a while now that the city of Kennedale has wanted to shut down Texas Raceway, as well as other tracks in the area for property development, and that by last fall, it was all but a certainty. Unfortunately, for the city of Kennedale, a racetrack does not fit in with their vision of suburban planning, so yet another track is going under, which is a shame, since Texas Raceway held some wicked no-prep and outlaw-style racing. This is what the owners had to say to the racers who were expecting another season:

** TEXAS RACEWAY UPDATE **

We had planned to race in but due to circumstances beyond our control it’s no longer an option. We are saddened by this situation but as I was reminded recently “Sometimes life isn’t fair”. As a result, Texas Raceway will not reopen for drag racing.

We want to thank you the racers, fans, our race crew and staff for their support all these years. It’s been a wonderful 15 seasons. We want to thank Gaylen Smith and Shan Morgan for their time and their dedication they bring to this sport. These folks have always supported the racers. We hope you will continue to support Texas Outlaw Pro Mod’s and the Redemption No Prep Series. We also want to thank our sponsors who have supported us. Painless Performance Products has been a very good friend to the track and continues to support racers and hot rod enthusiasts. Reher &#; Morrison has always backed the track and racers. Smith Motorsport, Brink Racecraft and RockAuto.com have been great supporters. Tom Carrell; Crowley Service Center has been sponsoring the street program for years and to all those that have helped the track in so many ways; thank you.

As my dad once said; “May you lights always be green, your motor never blow up and your win light always on.”

Happy trails

Precariously positioning his car on the tricky upper ledge of KPS’s ¼ mile speedway, he was able to blast through lapped traffic, while fending off the efforts of the balance of the top 5 finishers, which were Michael Day, Casey Burkham, Zane Lawrence and Claud Estes III.

Friday the 13th Fun N Grudge Part 1 - at Texas Raceway Kennedale

Many tracks have come and gone throughout the United States over the years and this has not been any different for the DFW area. Texas Raceway in Kennedale, Texas was a favorite for fans and racers alike for many, many years as was Green Valley, Dallas Raceway, and Redline Raceway. For one reason or the other, these tracks fell on hard times either economically or were pushed out by property development.

In the planning stages of Xtreme Raceway Park, these were all things that were taken into consideration.  What had to be accomplished was to build a drag strip in an area that would become industrial before it became residential; this lead to the search for a property with freeway frontage and with the recent developments on IH with the rail-port and supporting businesses, Trumbull, Texas was just the place.

The other key part of the puzzle was to be able to operate knowing what racers and fans wanted to see in such a facility. Xtreme Raceway Park is owned and operated by fellow drag racers and the checklist for what fans and racers wanted to see included clean restrooms, good food, reasonable concession pricing, family-friendly environment, good racing surface and convenient access. We have kept this all-in mind during the design and build process.

XRP was supposed to be a 2-year build but that schedule was pushed into overdrive with the closure of Texas Raceway which left many fans and racers without a place to go. A normal schedule to build from ground zero would be months and we have achieved this in well under a year. This could have been done much quicker but there were additions along the way to add value to our fans and racers.  These include “Bull Pens” which are raised platform covered viewing areas behind the starting line, a 40 x 40 covered pavilion with picnic tables and large commercial fans and coverings above concession areas with large commercial fans to keep you cool during the Texas summer, plus many more things.

We know that without the support of racers and fans that the track will not be a success, so your input was heavily considered during construction. You may think your Facebook comments went unnoticed, but they were not.

It is our goal at XRP to provide an environment that will be enjoyable to all age groups, class of racers and fans. We hope you have a great time when visiting our facility.  Welcome to the XRP Drag Racing family!

Reopening texas raceway kennedale

51BobbyMarriott

Texas’ famed Texas Raceway, which has hosted drag racing in the city of Kennedale since , announced on Monday that — barring a miracle — it’s gates will remain forever closed after the city government ruled against its continued operation.

Track owners Dave and Cindi McMillan issued the following statement, expressing their sadness  over the decision and their appreciation for all of those who been a part of their racing lives over the years:

We had planned to race in but due to circumstances beyond our control it’s no longer an option. We are saddened by this situation but as I was reminded recently “Sometimes life isn’t fair &#; Dave and Cindy McMillan

Dragzine is working to obtain a comment from the McMillan&#;s on the matter, but according to various reports, the city of Kennedale has long wished to gain tax revenue from the land by utilizing it for commercial or residential use. According to report by the Kennedale News in November, a contractual agreement was in place with the city to shudder the strip following the close of the season, but since that time, the McMillan’s have alluded to racing activities moving forward, even going so far as issuing a schedule for the season.

The strip is located along New Hope Road in Kennedale, just a few miles southeast of Fort Worth, and has been home to three different racing venues over the years, including Texas Raceway, the Kennedale Speedway Park, which is still operational but also reportedly slated for closure in the near future, and the defund Cowtown Speedway, all of which are located within less than half a mile of one another.

According to the Kennedale News report, the McMillan’s, who purchased the strip in , were advised in of the city’s plan to close both of the remaining racing venues and have, in good faith, worked with developers interested in the property while continuing to run the dragstrip in the years since.
