Plymouth Rock At A Glance

Plymouth Rock Assurance was founded in Massachusetts in 1982, and it offers property and casualty insurance in multiple states. You can get Plymouth Rock car insurance in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

In addition to car insurance, Plymouth Rock offers homeowners insurance, renters insurance, umbrella insurance, commercial insurance, and a few more products depending on the state. Plymouth Rock Assurance has an A- financial strength rating from AM Best. This is considered “excellent” by the rating company, which is especially good to see for a smaller company.

Like many other car insurance companies, Plymouth Rock is actually a group of companies that work under one umbrella. Other Plymouth Rock affiliates include:

  • Mt. Washington Assurance Corporation
  • Palisades Insurance Company
  • High Point Property and Casualty Insurance Company
  • Teachers Auto Insurance Company of New Jersey
  • Pilgrim Insurance Company
  • Twin Lights Insurance Company

Plymouth Rock also purchased 21st Century’s New York auto insurance business in 2018. That means some Plymouth Rock car insurance customers have policies that are underwritten by 21st Century Insurance.

Why does this matter? Well, it matters primarily for mobile users. Plymouth Rock has a mobile app but customers with 21st Century policies aren't able to access their mobile ID cards on the app, which is a significant inconvenience for mobile users.

Plymouth Rock Car Insurance Coverage

With Plymouth Rock car insurance, you can get the following types of auto insurance (some of which might be required in your state):

  • Bodily Injury Liability (BI)
  • Property Damage Liability (PD)
  • Comprehensive

When you purchase a policy with Plymouth Rock, you automatically get the Essential Assurance package. If you are a member of a motor club or if you’ve had Plymouth Rock car insurance for three years, you get upgraded to the Assurance Plus package.

Whether or not you get upgraded to Assurance Plus, you can still purchase an upgrade to Assurance Preferred or Assurance Premier. Assurance Premier is the highest benefit level.

Here are Essential Assurance coverage options:

Cost Of Plymouth Rock Car Insurance

We received Plymouth Rock auto insurance quotes in Massachusetts for a driver with the following profile:

  • 40-year-old male
  • Owner of a 2015 Toyota RAV4
  • Owner of a home in Allston, MA
  • Clean driving record

For minimum coverage, Plymouth Rock quoted our driver $524 per year, which is on par with the average for Massachusetts car insurance. Similarly, quotes for full coverage with 50/100/50 and 100/300/100 limits matched the state’s average prices.

At first glance, that seems like a good thing. However, remember that our driver is an ideal candidate for car insurance: a homeowner between the ages of 30 and 65 with a clean driving record. With those stats, we’d expect slightly better rates from Plymouth Rock.

Plymouth Rock doesn't publish a full list of discounts. The company lists each coverage option by state, so you’d think it would include discounts as well. A few discounts mentioned around the company’s website include:

  • Motor club member discount
  • Multi-policy discount
  • Multi-car discount
  • Student away at school discount
  • Good driver discount

You’ll have to speak with a local agent to get the full list of Plymouth Rock discounts available to you.

It’s fairly simple to get an online quote from Plymouth Rock. In our test, it took about five minutes to get to the pricing screen. You'll need to have information about your car, other drivers in your family, and your current insurance ready. You can see how your Plymouth Rock quote compares to other companies by providing similar information using the tool below or by calling (844) 246-8209.

Plymouth Rock Insurance Reviews

In our research, we found that Plymouth Rock insurance reviews are mostly negative, though there aren't many reviews to work with overall. Looking at the company’s BBB page, we can see that it has an A+ rating. However, there is only one positive customer review and it’s for Plymouth Rock home insurance rather than auto. Given the relatively low number of total reviews on the BBB page, this isn't necessarily a red flag.

Negative Plymouth Rock car insurance reviews tend to highlight issues with the claims process and coverage being denied. Several reviewers also noted that the company increased their premiums without reason.

J.D. Power’s 2021 U.S. Auto Insurance StudySM surveyed thousands of insurance customers in each region of the country to find out which brands were best. Plymouth Rock ranked tenth in the Mid-Atlantic region with a score of 827 out of 1,000.

Plymouth Rock Mobile App And Technology

Here’s how consumers rate Plymouth Rock’s app:

StoreStar RatingNumber of Votes
Google Play2.5242
The App Store1.3228

According to the app’s description, drivers with Plymouth Rock auto insurance can report claims, view insurance cards, find a repair shop, pay bills, and change payment plans from their mobile devices. However, after reading through some of the reviews, it seems like drivers can’t actually do much of that.

Some customers say the app automatically reroutes them to their driver profile whenever they click on a link to do something else. Others say the app won’t load their ID card or let them access their policy. Some also say the app won’t register a payment plan change or let them pay their bill.

Road Rewards is Plymouth Rock’s telematics app. It tracks your driving and gives you a score based on how safe you are. However, it doesn't provide discounts on your insurance. Instead, it gives you points that you can redeem for gift cards to different businesses like Amazon or Starbucks.

Also, Road Rewards only gives points to people with Plymouth Rock car insurance policies in a few states. Anyone across the country can download the app and use it, but not everyone can redeem points. Here are the drivers who can get rewards with Road Rewards:

  • Massachusetts drivers with a Plymouth Rock policy
  • Connecticut drivers with a Plymouth Rock policy
  • New Hampshire drivers with a Mt. Washington Assurance policy
  • New Jersey drivers with a Palisades policy
  • Pennsylvania drivers with a Palisades policy

Our Take On Plymouth Rock Auto Insurance: 4.0 Stars

Top Car Insurance Companies

If you live in a state where you can get Plymouth Rock car insurance, you may also want to consider policies from a few other top-rated companies. We rounded up the best car insurance companies and compared them on the following criteria:

  • Financial strength
  • Availability
  • Customer service
  • Cost and discounts
  • Coverage
  • Technology

Needless to say, some companies performed better than others. We think Geico and USAA are great alternatives to Plymouth Rock car insurance.

See how your Plymouth Rock quote compares to other companies by using the tool below or by calling (844) 246-8209.

Geico Insurance logo

As the second-largest insurance company in the United States, Geico offers some of the best rates in the nation and has a financial strength rating of A++. The company has been around since 1936, but there are many more reasons to get a quote from Geico.

Geico has 15 different discounts for drivers. Some of the best discounts are for students, military personnel, multi-policy customers, and government employees. It’s hard not to qualify for a discount with Geico, which is one reason the company has great rates.

Geico also has a robust app that lets you request roadside assistance, pay your bill, file a claim, and more. The app has great ratings from hundreds of thousands of customers. With the app, you can chat with a personal assistant when you have questions about your policy or your recent claim.

Lastly, you can get Geico’s DriveEasy app in some states. Participation in this program can earn you a discount of up to 20 percent on your premiums.

Learn more by reading our complete Geico auto insurance review.

USAA Insurance logo

USAA is another great choice for car insurance in the Northeast. Insurance quotes from USAA tend to be lower than even Geico’s quotes, but there are some restrictions to eligibility. To get USAA insurance, you have to be a member of the military, a veteran, or an immediate family member.

If you think you might be eligible, we recommend getting a quote. USAA scored very high on J.D. Power’s 2020 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction Study and 2021 U.S. Insurance Shopping Study. USAA also has a great app, which we think is an important factor to look for in your car insurance company.

One week after my wife's car was totalled by one of their clients they still hadn't interviewed their own client and established fault. Even after I sent them a video of their client running a stop sign and T boning our Grand Cherokee. They did come up with a settlement figure and would subtract 5000 from it until I arranged to have a salvage yard pick it up. Of course I would also have to pay off the lien to clear the title. Then I would have to pay the storage fees and they would reimburse me up until a set date. Of course with that date there was no way I was going to be able to retrieve the title before. So in other words their client totalled my car then they want me to do all the leg work and all with no rental offered. Filed with State Farm and was done in about 3 hours. Settlement on the way. Jeep gone the next day all done. If I ever see this garbage insurance company again I'll file with mine and Plymouth can go.... themselves.

This insurance company is fraudulent. The appraisers and staff are not knowledgeable and make decisions based on their own personal experience instead of professional. They will try to rob you blind, lie and take advantage of you especially if you are a woman. They are rude, disrespectful and unhelpful to say the least. You get what you pay for. Stay away!

They ended my policy without notifying me why and the accidents that occurred on the report are not me. The dates presented are not in line with my driving history due to the fact I had not owned a vehicle at the time nor was around during these offenses to happen.

Do NOT use this Comp for Homeowners!! They’ve listed tons of different “water types” they will not cover! Including RAIN & GROUND WATERS!!! & They determine where the water began. Travelers, State Farm, Adirondack all cover water damages. RUN AWAY FROM PLYMOUTH ROCK INSURANCE.

I got a new policy from them and was stated a reasonable price so I took the policy. After a few weeks I noticed my policy shot up close to an extra 3K. I called and email the underwriter which never responded to me. So the beginning of June I canceled the policy. They charged me $198 to cancel. Just comes around they took $900 from my account and told me they see my policy canceled but someone must of screwed up. So now they're saying I have to wait 7 to 10 business days to get my refund and if I owe any money it will be deducted. Horrible experience

I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this policy, the agent was so very perceived when I purchased the policy, I ended up bundling home and auto. The problem started when I transferred my plates from a car I sold to the new one (I have 2 vehicles on this policy). I am on auto payment plan (mistake they can take your money at any time). The agent didn't take the sold car off of the policy and had me paying for 3 cars, In May my payment was $156.00 that was taken out 5/24/2012, on the same day they (Plymouth Rock) $448.10, I called, (6/17/21) they tried to justify why it was taken out and why they couldn't reimburse me. I had tried for 5 day to contact the agent, spoke with her at the beginning of this event, after which she never called me or returned my calls, 6/21/2021 called agent again today no responsive.

After speaking with several customer reps (on the phone for an hour), terrible headache from trying to explain and to have my money refunded, and an agent speaking with his supervisor, did they say they would be refunding my money, I have to threaten speaking with an attorney to calling the BBB. They said my funds would be back in my account in 2 -3 days, Well I will see. Definitely looking for new auto ins.

Had their car/home policies for the last 10 months (Feb 2020). Gladly take money out of the bank account for both policies, but yet they can not find our homeowners policy. Constantly given the run around by their staff. Then told by one customer representative that another insurance company is taking the money on "their behalf". (Travelers insurance is taking money out of my account under the name Plymouth Rock). Yeah! As I said this insurance company is run by incompetent staff or scammers.

I applied online for insurance. First I was told they were NOT issuing policies because of the Hurricane in August. I applied again in September, they said they do not insure those over 2 apartments (mine has 3) yet they took payment 3 times and as of today, almost 60 days have still not refunded it and keep saying they will call me back and don’t! Horrible customer service.

I have a claim since the beginning of September and the adjuster of this company does not answer my calls. I was the prejudicated part of the accident. I called the adjuster several times. When he did not respond, I called the the office company and tried to contact the supervisor of the adjuster. I left a message to the supervisor. To this day, I have not received any response from the supervisor.

I had to send a message through the messenger on the company Facebook account and then the adjuster called me on September 18, 2020. We talked and he asked me to send pictures of my car. I did it immediately and asked him to process promptly my claim because I am having problems opening the driver’s door because of the accident. After that, nobody has called me or send a message. I have not received any information of the status of my claim. Now I am contemplating to process my claim though my own insurance company because this company has not help me to process my claim.

Plymouth Rock is a very good insurance company. They are not over rated unlike other providers out there. They are competitive with other insurance companies and they have good deals. I used to have Liberty Mutual, The first year they were great however the following year with no speeding tickets or parking tickets they raised my insurance $160 more than what I was paying and I said no way that’s way too high so a friend of mine suggested Plymouth Rock. And honestly they got me lower price with the same coverage what I had with liberty mutual. I was very shocked and before liberty mutual I had Geico. Geico was very expensive.

Like most states, New Jersey requires drivers to carry some form of car insurance to operate a vehicle on New Jersey roadways. When you shop for the best car insurance in New Jersey, you may end up paying more than other drivers, based on your personal details and driving history.

New Jersey Insurance Requirements

As a no-fault state, New Jersey requires drivers to purchase personal injury protection and liability insurance. According to NerdWallet, New Jersey offers drivers two plans that meet state insurance requirements. The Basic Policy includes:

  • $5000 property damage liability per accident.
  • $15,000 personal injury protection.

Drivers who want more coverage can select the Standard Policy, which includes:

  • $15,000 bodily injury liability per person.
  • $30,000 bodily injury liability total per accident.
  • $5000 property damage liability per accident.
  • $15,000 personal injury protection.

New Jersey also requires drivers to add uninsured motorist coverage to the policy they choose. Uninsured motorist limits match the liability limits.

Forbes notes that New Jersey also offers a Special Auto Insurance Policy (SAIP) with extremely low rates. SAIP is only available to drivers who are enrolled in federal Medicaid with hospitalization coverage.

As NerdWallet points out, the Basic Policy and Standard Policy meet legal requirements, but they may not provide enough coverage in a severe accident. For example, if you're at fault in an accident and the other driver's car is totaled, a $5000 liability limit won't cover the total costs. You would have to pay for the rest out of pocket. Experts recommend raising your liability limits and adding comprehensive and collision coverage to your policy.

Whether you choose a Basic Policy, Standard Policy, or full coverage, you're required by law to provide proof of coverage if you're ever stopped by a police officer or when your registering a vehicle with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. This proof can be in paper form or electronic. According to MoneyGeek, if you're ever caught driving without insurance, you could face the following consequences:

  • Suspension of your driver's license for one year.
  • Revocation of your vehicle registration.
  • A fine ranging from $300 to $1000.
  • A community service sentence.

Forbes reports that New Jersey law allows your insurance company to cancel your policy for the following reasons:

  • You aren't making your premium payments.
  • You made a false statement or didn't disclose the correct information when you applied for your policy.
  • You failed to provide reasonable and necessary information to your provider when applying for your policy or filing a claim.

How Much Does Car Insurance Cost in New Jersey?

How much you pay for insurance as a New Jersey driver depends on several factors. How much coverage you choose and whether you have a clean driving record can significantly impact your insurance rate. Forbes created a quote survey of leading insurance companies operating in New Jersey to see how much they charge drivers with various profiles. If you live in New Jersey, have a clean driving record, and choose 100/300/100 liability with comprehensive and collision coverage, here's what you can expect to pay, on average:

  • GEICO: $1310 a year.
  • Plymouth Rock: $1375 a year.
  • Progressive: $1536 a year.
  • NJM Insurance: $1656 a year.

Here are the average rates for a driver with the same amount of coverage but with one speeding ticket on their record:

  • GEICO: $1310 a year.
  • Progressive: $1910 a year.
  • NJM Insurance: $2003 a year.
  • Allstate: $2267 a year.

As the above numbers indicate, you can usually expect your insurance rates to increase after receiving a speeding ticket. Forbes' survey shows that they go up even more if you're at fault in an accident. Here's what you expect to pay, on average, if you have one at-fault accident on your record:

  • Plymouth Rock: $1479 a year.
  • NJM Insurance: $1646 a year.
  • GEICO: $1832 a year.
  • Selective: $2401 a year.

Your driving record isn't the only factor an insurance provider looks at when calculating your rates. The insurance industry correlates your credit history with the likelihood that you'll file a claim, determining that drivers with low credit scores will file more claims than drivers with higher scores. If you have poor credit and you want to purchase 100/300/100 liability coverage, here's what you'll pay, on average:

  • Selective: $2335 a year.
  • Progressive: $2558 a year.
  • NJM Insurance: $2653 a year.
  • GEICO: $3035 a year.

Discounts for New Jersey Drivers

While New Jersey drivers pay some of the highest car insurance rates in the country, there are ways they can save money. Bankrate suggests you start by shopping around for quotes. When you select a policy, you may end up qualifying for several discounts, including:

  • Bundling Discounts: If you purchase your car insurance from the same company that provides you with homeowners or renters insurance, your provider is likely to give you a bundling discount.
  • Safe Driver Discount: Insurance companies with safe driver programs require participating drivers to track their driving habits with a telemetric device or smartphone app. The app monitors how fast you drive, how hard you brake, and other habits. If you drive safely, over time, you'll earn larger discounts.
  • Good Student Discount: If you add your teen driver to your policy, they can qualify for a discount if they maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Many companies extend this discount to college students under the age of 25.
  • Anti-Theft/Safety Features Discount: If you install an alarm on your car or purchase a vehicle with the latest safety features, you can receive a discount.

What Are the Best Insurance Companies In New Jersey?

Bankrate points out that price isn't the only factor to consider when choosing an insurance company. You also want a company that offers excellent customer surface and claims satisfaction. J.D. Power rates companies based on customer service reviews, ease of filing a claim, and discounts each company offers, among other factors. These companies rank the highest among New Jersey providers:

  • GEICO: 841 points out of 1000.
  • NJM Insurance: 847 points out of 1000.
  • Progressive: 828 points out of 1000.
  • State Farm: 855 points out of 1000.

Geico was founded in 1936 and is based in Chevy Chase, Maryland. For 2019, this insurer didn't place among the top 10 car insurance companies. The primary product Geico sells is auto insurance, however they do offer customers homeowners insurance as well as renters insurance through non-affiliate insurance companies. In fact, Clearsurance consumers ranked 8th for homeowners insurance and 3rd for renters insurance by Clearsurance consumers for 2019. Although the policies are offered through non-affiliated companies, Geico does offer discounts for bundling your policies, which makes it easier to save if you have both your home insurance and auto insurance policies through Geico.

Geico also offers its auto insurance customers a free accident forgiveness program, although it should be noted that this is not available to those in California, Connecticut, or Massachusetts. Drivers who have been accident-free for at least five years will not receive an increase on their auto insurance rates for their first at-fault accident. It should be noted that this does only apply to the first accident the policyholder is in.

Thank you for your service. Eligible retired and active duty members of the military are offered up to a 15 percent discount at Geico.

Geico does offer a vast array of coverage options and discounts for their policyholders. However, Progressive does offer a usage-based insurance option which Geico doesn't have. So if you don't want to have your driving habits monitored and either gain a discount or otherwise from the analysis of that data, then Geico could be the right choice for you.

Progressive overview

Progressive, an Ohio-based company, has made a large name for itself when it comes to selling auto insurance. Today the company insures more than 18 million drivers. The company does offer the bundling of renters insurance or homeowners insurance policies alongside your auto insurance policy, however these products are sold through non-affiliated insurance companies, but are a good way to earn an insurance discount with Progressive Insurance to earn a discount.

Snapshot is a program offered by Progressive which uses an app or OBD plug-in to monitor the policyholder's driving habits over time. You are able to earn a discount after six months if safe driving habits are observed by the company's analysts. However, the downside to this is that if participants in the program exhibit poor driving habits, such as hard braking or speeding, they can be subject to having a rate increase as they are seen to be more of an insurance risk. So while the Snapshot program is often promoted as a discount for drivers, it may not always be the case according to data it collects.

Most drivers looking to earn some money as a side hustle by using their private vehicle for rideshare should realize that there are additional insurance needs that go along with this line of work, even if it is just for a few bucks on the side. To cover some of the gaps between personal insurance policies and insurance proved by a transportation network company (TNC), Progressive has a solution with rideshare insurance. This coverage was designed with Uber or Lyft drivers in mind so that they can keep their mind on the road and off any potential insurance worries.

Progressive also offers a deductible savings bank as an additional coverage option. This is a paid option for those policyholders with collision and/or comprehensive coverage that will reduce their deductible by $50 every six months without a claim. This can be very beneficial for loyal customers as the longer you go without a claim, the less you will have to pay out should an accident occur. For example, if a driver with a $500 deductible enrolled in this coverage for five accident-free years, their deductible is covered entirely by the savings bank should an accident happen.

By Jacquelyne HoyMy insurance premium was increased by $200 monthly. Contacted Geigo to inform them that we could not afford the increase as only my spouse is working. The first agent I spoke to said that my payment would revert back to what it was but never did. The second agent I spoke to told me the only way to reduce the premium is to decrease my coverage which I did, but the premium never decreased. I called and spoke to a 3rd agent after they deducted the first installment which put a big dent in our household budget. The 3rd agent told me that although I rejected the uninsured motor coverage last time, I was charged again for it this time because, I needed to elect to reject it again when they renewed my insurance and if the agents I spoke to earlier had done a little digging, they could have resolved the issue successfully. I signed the required document online to reject the uninsured auto insurance and was supposed to be reimbursed $200 for the payment they debited from my account. Yet, Geigo has scheduled to deduct the high premium from my account for the October payment. I tried to postponed the payment to have time to get the matter resolved but I could not as Geico is now saying that I owe them $200, I have been a customer of Geico for over 20 years, the last thing I expected is to get more stress and anxiety from the company during such a difficult period for our family.

mister

the worst company ever, they insure you for 6 months at a time then when its time to "renew" they start increasing your rates with no explanation, they give you a speech about if anything happens you want to be covered right" lol they are thief's , not worth it, I suggest any other company besides geico!! raise your rate with no reason then they read some lame excuses LOL what a joke!!

A Geico insured motorist hit my parked car. Of course they are 100% responsible for repairing. The adjuster (Brandon Seiber) skinnied down the estimate for repair such that my car was not fixed properly AND it cost me money with the body shop. The body shop said Geico is the only insurance company this happens with and they do it to their own insured. If you have Geico, you might want to think about truly how well covered you are. The Average Cost of Car Insurance in Massachusetts

The cost of Massachusetts auto insurance is more expensive on average compared to the national average. According to Coverage.com, a full coverage auto insurance premium in this state is $1,769 per year. That is about 12% more than the national average of $1,555. For just the minimum coverage required by the state, the average is $617 per year.

Factors that can affect your insurance premium include, but aren’t limited to, weather conditions in the area, brand and model of your car, coverage add-ons, claims history, gender, amount of drivers for each vehicle, years spent driving and even age. Massachusetts is part of the group of states that don’t allow insurers to consider your credit score to set your car insurance rates.

Guide to Massachusetts Car Insurance

Car owners looking for the best auto insurance in Massachusetts who practice safe driving habits may see more competitive rates, on average. And while most drivers in this state are responsible, with 93% of them being insured (according to a study made by SmartAsset) uninsured drivers are one of the many reasons insurance is a wise financial investment, in addition to being required by the state. Massachusetts ranked within the best ten states for drivers in the United States and it has the fewest fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles driven. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts created a comprehensive list of driving resources to support older adults, people with disabilities and low-income commuters. To learn more about safe driving, pedestrian and bicycling safety, you can check their page on transportation safety and injury prevention. The variety of greater or lesser risks is ultimately what determines the cost of car insurance in Massachusetts, and which company will be the best fit.

Car Insurance Add-Ons That Will Further Protect You

Based on common risks and the local driver’s profile, we recommend the following add-ons:

  • Optional Bodily Injury to Others: An add-on that most providers offer and covers accidents anywhere in the United States. In case of an accident, this coverage pays for damages to the driver and any vehicle passengers.
  • Medical Payments: Pays for medical expenses for you and the passengers when you exceed what’s covered by your Personal Injury Protection (PIP).
  • Collision coverage: In the event of a crash, this coverage will cover damages to your vehicle. Your lender may require you to have this coverage.
  • Comprehensive coverage: This add-on will cover anything that is not crash-related. For example, damages caused by a storm, a falling object, hitting an animal or even if someone steals your car.

Massachusetts Minimum Insurance Requirements

Insurance requirements vary per state. In the state of Massachusetts, you are required to have comprehensive liability coverage as the minimum, as well as personal injury protection, to satisfy the state’s no-fault law. That includes coverage for bodily injuries to others, another one for personal injuries and property damages. Finally, this state requires you to have coverage for physical injuries caused by uninsured autos.

Minimum liability required in the state of Massachusetts is divided as follows:

  • $20,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $40,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $5,000 property damage liability per accident
  • $20,000 uninsured motorist bodily injury liability per person
  • $40,000 uninsured motorist bodily injury liability per accident
  • $8,000 personal injury protection (PIP)

Massachusetts Car Insurance FAQ

On average, Massachusetts’ car insurance rates are $1,769 for a full coverage policy and $617 for the state minimum liability. However, factors like coverage limits, add-ons, car models, years spent driving, age, and claims history could affect your insurance premium. Massachusetts does not allow credit history or gender to affect your premiums. If you shop around and compare quotes, you can find the best coverage for the best price.

The minimum liability refers to the minimum amount of insurance required by the state of Massachusetts. The minimum coverage includes:

  • $20,000 per person / $40,000 per accident bodily injury liability coverage
  • $20,000 per person / $40,000 per accident uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage
  • $8,000 personal injury protection
  • $5,000 for property damage

The best cheap car insurance in Massachusetts meeting the state minimum liability is offered by Citizens Insurance, at an average of $372 per year for minimum coverage. The second cheapest based on annual premiums is Plymouth Rock Assurance, at $415 a year for minimum coverage. Of these, the only cheap car insurance company that made it to our list of best car insurance companies in Massachusetts was Plymouth Rock Assurance.

Reviews.com scores products, services and companies using five quantifiable criteria to help readers choose the best one for them. For the best car insurance in Massachusetts, our editorial team compared affordability, customer support, coverage options, customer satisfaction scores and online resources from each company and averaged the scores to produce our very own Reviews.com rating. These scores were created with our readers in mind and are meant to be a helpful tool to simplify the process of choosing which car insurance company is best for you.

As for average pricing, we used Coverage.com’s data, based on the profiles of 30-year male and female. For full coverage, the details used were the following:

  • $100k bodily injury liability per person
  • $300k bodily injury liability coverage per crash
  • $100k property damage liability coverage per crash
  • $500 collision coverage deductible
  • $500 comprehensive coverage deductible

Minimum coverages were applied to match state requirements. Both drivers used a new, financed 2018 Toyota Camry, commuting five days a week and driving 12,000 miles per year. Since auto insurance rates vary widely among different profiles, we encourage you to compare options that fit your specific needs.
