Terry lake longmont DEFAULT

Dear Johnnie: For years I’ve driven by Terry Lake, north of town, and have seen the sign that says Pleasant Valley Boating Club at the entrance to the access road. I also heard that this is a private club that is difficult to get a membership with. I thought the city of Longmont owns the majority of the lake, so was wondering if the city has some plans in the future to exercise its ownership so others in the city can use the lake for boating and other recreational activities and not be restricted to a “club”? — Lake Lover

Dear Lake Lover: Terry Lake is not owned by the city of Longmont. It is owned by the Pleasant Valley Reservoir Fish & Ditch Company.

Fishing locations offered by the the city are Button Rock, Izaak Walton, Golden Ponds, McCall Lake, Union Reservoir and Lake McIntosh. You can read more about them at http://ci.longmont.co.us/parks/fishing/.

Dear Readers: As you celebrate this festive holiday, pause to remember why our nation is celebrating.

Remember those brave men who defied a kind and who, “for the support of this Declaration (of Independence), with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence,” mutually pledged to one another their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.

God bless America.

Welcome To Terry Lake Recreation Association

The Terry Lake Recreation Association (TLRA) is a not-for-profit organization formed to maintain a cost effective lease of privately owned Terry Lake and the surrounding greenbelt area with the Larimer and Weld Reservoir Company for the exclusive recreational use by its active members.

Terry Lake is a restricted, member only lake. Non-members will be ticketed for trespassing on the lake or along the shoreline by the Larimer sheriff.

TLRA is governed by a Board of Directors to ensure and promote the safe enjoyment of the lake property.

What is a Lake Association?

What is the Purpose of a Lake Association?

A lake association provides a forum for residents to raise concerns, become educationed about problems, and work towards solutions.  Just like any organized group that shares a common interest, they are able to work out difficult problems by sharing objectives, knowledge, skills and resources.  Together they can have a greater influence on local and state governments through lobbying and working with government agencies to help influence ordinances and regulations.

Lake Associations serve several functions including:

  • Developing a partnership with lake neighbors
  • Gaining awareness of neighbors lake interest
  • Developing a communication of network for sharing like news
  • Evolving a long-range lake management plan
  • Acting as a support group for members
  • Gathering information and presenting educational information for membership and those living near the lake
  • Conducting data collection on a broad range of lake concerns (water quality, acquatic plan surveys, watershed development, and recreational use conflicts).
  • Gaining a historical perspective from long-term residents
  • Networking with other lake associations
